About Me

My photo
Hi. I live in Canberra, Australia, and started tatting early in 2009. Consequently, I've now caught the 'tatting bug' and hope to be infected for a long while.

Long awaited doily

It was definitely time to tackle a larger tatting task than I had previously undertaken, so a doily pattern was chosen.

Debbie Arnold made this opportunity possible by kindly sharing her Purple and teal square doily pattern on the Web.

This pattern was interesting and enjoyable to tat. It gave me the opportunity to polish up on my 'unpicking' skills. It even gave me the opportunity to learn how to 'cut out' mistakes that were too large to unpick (twice!).

Debbie warns that rows 8 to 10 are 'count carefully rows'. And I'd like to confirm that she wasn't joking:)

I hope to come across other patterns that she has designed because her doily pattern keeps its shape nicely when completed.

  8. Your doily is lovely. Debbie is a great designer, she tells you how much thread to expect and always throws in something tricky but fun! Congratulations on finishing!

  9. I'm not really a doily person but I like it, so I guess I won't be making it. It is lovely, nonetheless.
The way the two colours are used makes this rather striking. Then again, I am partial to shades of brown, :)

  10. Thanks all for your lovely comments.

Jon, I'm not really a doily person either, which is why it took me so long to getting around to making one. I saw other people blog about this particular pattern and I thought that it was really pretty.

Likewise, I'm not much of a hankerchief person, but I will be making an edging for one just for the experience (not quite sure what to do with it after that though......)

Maureen, I used my very favourite thread - Altin Basak (size 50). It is a pleasure to tat with this thread and I haven't come across any knots in the thread yet :)
